Do you believe in Vampires?

Postby Figment on Tue Dec 30, 2008 11:20 pm

OK, so I have a vampire novel, or two that I have just started...

The first is the story of Hannah: Ten year old girl, turned into a vampire by a sadistic guy who then left her to her parents... She hunted animals on the street, and he parents watched over her while she brought death to so many. Then they died of old age, leaving their baby girl, the apple of their eyes, alone.
Forever ten years old.
So, through the course of the story there are some things that happen... She turns some twins to be her friends, and then she turns a guy she has a crush on. He is late 20s, early 30s, and so finds the whole idea weird, and can't be with her.
He breaks her heart.

Now, a couple of questions:

1) What are some other things that you would like to see happen in the book.
2) What do you think she should do afterwards, when her heart is broken? I have half a mind to send her off on a killing spree, but what do you think?

The second is the story of Kristine and Josie: They were turned by Hannah, they are about twelve, and twins.
The only bit that I get from these girls is that they are searching for a sister to play with, and to spend time with them... Someone "cool" who can pamper them and look after them... They have a telepathic link, and they will see one that they think would make a good sister and both work their trancelike magic if they agree. I guess there is quite a bit of trial and error... Some wouldn't want to be vamps, and some would want to go out and enjoy their newfound immortality and such...
Eventually they will find a sister, but any ideas for the rest of it?

I'm sure a lot of it will come to me while writing... For both... But any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :D

Here's where my own biases make this a little hard. I always see vampire novels as dark horror fantasy (at least until I've read a little bit into them), but I'll try and weed as much of that out of my response.
1)
a) Personally I think the ethical dilemmas of vampires are always interesting. The constant craving for human blood vs. human decency. Just don't rely on it for relationships (I'm talking to you Twilight series).
b) Killing spree could be quite interesting. It gives the character depth and also could easily be used to bring up problems. Now I killed people and the town knows of my existence and wants to kill me.
The other possibility is the exact opposite. Have Hannah become extremely depressed and withdrawn. This allows for the same character development without the complications the killing spree would cause with the rest of humanity.

2) Sadly no ideas come to mind.

Well, thats the thing geebles, I *do* plan it to be a bit of a dark horror fantasy. But not in a bad way... I do plan it to have a little of that feel about it. It's not going to be set in a school with vampires and people co-existing peacefully (Twilight). I mean, it will to an extent, but only so she can stay hidden... She WILL drink blood, she WILL kill people... She is a ten year old who must drink blood, and who is always ten...
It will be dark.

Let me think on this a bit and I'll get back to ya, Figgy! I don't think well when I'm sick. ;)
