My dragon romance...

Postby DarkWaltz on Sat May 24, 2008 3:27 am

This story doesn't have a general plot. The girl from this world who gets transported to that for some reason and falls in love with a dragon is the entire extent of my planning. Does anyone have any ideas? What reason might she have for being there? What's going on there? ...

Ooooh! Sounds really awesome!

Hmm, ok, well traditionally in the "one world to another" vein, the person has always been dreamer, and wished for something special. Or always been really grounded and not believed in that sort of thing.

Maybe you could go with something completely different... Maybe she is with a search party looking for a missing kid... Or maybe she was babysitting, and the kid ran off, or her pet ran off, and she has gone looking for it... And she transitions from one world to another without realising it... (No strange sounds, or bright flashes of light, or loss of consciousness) I dunno...

Hope I have helped somewhat... Sounds like an awesome idea though(yours that is)!!!

Ooo, I like that last one!!!! Thanks Figgy! I think I'll use that. :) And thanks, I'm glad you think it's cool, I wasn't sure if it would just sound dorky or something.

hmm... I like what Figgy said. Though I would find it quite odd that a girl would fall in love with a dragon...

Well, he's in "human" form for most of it. She only learns he's a dragon after she's fallen in love with him. Then it's a problem.

Ohhhh *light bulb blinks on*
He's one of those kinds of dragon's.

Now this totally reminds me of Spirited Away.

*hasn't seen Spirited Away*

It was inspired mostly by something in Weis and Hickman's Dragonlance chronicles and then later kind of reminded me of Doctor Who because of the intense age gap and one being mortal and the other not and the whole other species thing... ;)

Spirited Away is one of those anime movies. It's AWESOME. But this girl and her parents cross into the spirit realm without realizing it and then she falls in love with a boy who's also a river spirit/dragon.

Yea... well I could point out the scientific flaws (two different species cannot--by definition--interbreed), or I could just go for the it's an awesome idea...

DAME YOU BIOLOGY!
But yeah, it's a good idea, and would be best approached from a non-traditional angle. Don't make the dragon (and/or the girl) hot, etc.

I really love this idea, DW. It sounds so beautiful. A girl falling in love with a dragon. I picture it as like a heartbreaking piece of work. Because the girl and the dragon are so different it's hard for people to understand their love and accept it.

I often jump to conclusions and make my own theories. Seriously, you don't want to watch movies with me. It's painful. :P

I imagine the world being in turmoil other than being a bright, cheery, vivid land where everything is perfect and lovely. Except for one side of the world that's all evil and such. Instead I see the world kind of how ours is now but with more kinds of species. Fairies, mermaids, dragons, elves...ect.

Almost like there has been a war raging for centuries, some towns have gone unharmed while other have been destroyed or overrun.

And the Dragons were the cities best defense but when the cities began to be destroyed and dragons slaughtered the dragons went into hiding. Then the main girl arrives at a time like this, a time when a city it being attacked and she is completely lost as to what has happened. But there has always been dragon watching over the people in the town, hidden amongst them as a human. The dragon fights back against the attackers and runs them out of town and then flees but in truth he just disappears and then turns back into his human self and rejoins the town. This is when the main character meet him.

I picture him to have scars on his body because of all the fights he's been in. A few on his face making him less perfect and pretty. But no matter in the form of a dragon or human his eyes remain the same. (Not sure what color, you decide) So one day when the dragon defends the main character she sees the dragon's eyes and she recognizes them but she doesn't believe it to be true. She doesn't connect the pieces right then or maybe she does and that's when she learns the truth about him. Or maybe while they're together as human's someone attacks them and he turns into a dragon to defend themselves. Whichever one.

It seems like the main character gives the dragon strength. While he's with her he feels like he can do anything, he doesn't want to just be waiting around to protect towns he wants to go to the enemy instead. He could become the leader of those dragons that remain and together they choose to take the battle to the enemy instead of the other way around.

But even then it seems people are too afraid for change, they see the main character and the dragon's union as not meant to be. Not right.

Then when the dragons save the day, cause seriously they totally have to save the day, the people eat their words.

It's hard to say where the best place to stay would be. Does the main character stay in the dragon's world or does the dragon goes to hers? Of course if the main character had no family/friends dragon's world would be first choice but if she does it would be hard to stay. And vica versa with the dragon.

Just a few ideas for ya. :P As I said, I theorize. Hope they can help you somehow cause I can't wait to read this story! Get writing!

I expect to see Conflicting Realities making its way over here sometime soon, too. :D

Hmm... I think it would be a bit odd if the dragon came in to the girls world... I picture something sort of like the beauty and the beast happening if he does... But if she went into his, I could picture them falling in love much more easily.

I'm afraid I'm going to be really unconstructive for the moment when I just say that this sounds really good!
I shall think more about it when I'm feeling more awake.
A common misconception is that dragons hoard gold. This is half true. Dragons have an unusual sense of value and will actually hoard *anything* they get their claws on. This could be gold coins, or any coins, cds, and other shiny things, through to toys, plushies and oddly shaped leaves, colourful stones and fancy international bottlecaps.

Okay, you know how I'm an unemotional rock and all that, and romance novels really bore me? I'm actually /really/ interested in this; I can't wait to read it. It might just be that I'm in one of those 'moods', but it sounds really great. :D And I can't wait 'til you add another chapter to Conflicting Realities, I love that one too. ^^ Did you read my rant?

"I often jump to conclusions and make my own theories. Seriously, you don't want to watch movies with me. It's painful."

You don't want to watch anything with Mae. She /always/ figures out the whole plotline within the first ten seconds. Whenever we watch CSI..."yep, those two SCUBA divers did it, with cyanide syringes, and they did it because they wanted to set off a bomb in New York harbor." I mean really...SHUT UP! WE DON'T WANT TO KNOW!

I'm thinking maybe there is a human rival for the woman's love, and that at some point she must make the choice between her dragon lover and her human one. On the one hand, she has her truest love (who isn't even human), and the human lover who will allow her to lead some semblence of a normal life.

Something like that maybe... :?

Again though, fantastic idea!

Well that can't work, pommie, you know, the whole "I want to be with my human lover so I can be normal" thing. I mean, how would that make everyone feel? Everyone reading it would be able to see right through it, they'd say "well of course she's going to go with the dragon, if the only pros her human lover has is 'normality', then of course she'll go with the dragon..." and of course the dragon would get real ticked off--"you don't like me because I'm abnormal? *cries* I CAN BE NORMAL! WATCH! *runs away*"
