Charles Dickens wrote:"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only."

That is not good grammar, but it's great writing. If you break the rules for reasons other than i cant speek grammer good or Ise too dumb too! I'm fine with it.

Wow, that last sentence was painful.... ;)

And I like Charles Dickens' writing too. It's very descriptive and almost overly elegant, or something, but it's very good. *refrains from Doctor Who quote* ;)

But the point is that the rules of grammar really aren't rules... they're guidelines. Very heavily enforced guidelines.

Charles Dickens annoys the crap out of me. I actually wrote a paper in my freshman year explaining what a wussy loser he was. I got a pretty high score on it, too, because it was "well written, and...though I hate to say it, open-minded". I asked my teacher what she meant, and she said that "most students just rant about how boring his books are. You actually pointed out the specific flaws, instead of just saying the whole book was a flaw, and managed to come up with about three pages of them. Nice work." I don't think that's actually 'open-minded', but it bloated my ego for a few days. XD

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

We /are/ cool. DID YOU GUYS SEE THE EPISODE OF MYTHBUSTERS THIS AFTERNOON? EXPLODING LAVA LAMPS!

And exploding beans, exploding milk, exploding spam...

I was trying to explain to a Chinese guy yesterday about spam. I asked him if he knew what it was (see, we have Chinese classes and english classes right next to each other :/) and I says "well, it's meat...in a can." "ew, that sound gross." "Well, yeah, it is, but we eat it anyway." "Why?" "Um...'cause it's there?"
