I need a name that can be both male or female that is a nickname of sorts for kaleidoscope. Tell me what you think.

How about Kalei?

Also, I want to know what you're writing about that provokes such cool questions. ;)

^Kalei would actually work even better, but I didn't know if that would be a) too hard to pronounce and/or b) too girly. It's supposed to be short for Kaleidoscope, see. There's this... being, a Kaleidoscope sort of, that changes the way things were/are/will be. Every time you move a normal kaleidoscope you get a compleletly new pattern with different shapes and colors, and that's sort of the basis of this story. The Kaleidoscope goes to all sorts of moments, sometimes in male form, sometimes female, once as a dog (and probably other crazy stuff later :) ), which it sees in terms of colors and shapes, and changes things. I have to work out how the main character person is going to figure out that all this is happening and how it changes and everything...

That sounds awesome!
And I don't think that Kalei sounds too feminine, I think it works :D
A common misconception is that dragons hoard gold. This is half true. Dragons have an unusual sense of value and will actually hoard *anything* they get their claws on. This could be gold coins, or any coins, cds, and other shiny things, through to toys, plushies and oddly shaped leaves, colourful stones and fancy international bottlecaps.

Kali makes me think of the Indian goddess of destruction, and I think it would for a lot of other people too. So, it's instantly linked to female in my mind.

Kalei sounds cool.

Wow. How you thought of that idea, DW, is ridiculous. I love everything you think up!

I have to agree that Kalei could work for a boy and a girl. Much better than Kali. That reminds me of my friend that was a girl whose name was Callie. So it could be biased in thinking it's a girl name. :P

Kalei reminds me of the girl in my stories name, Solei. lol

Yes, I agree also. But would that be kind of pronounced like: Cal-eye? Because I can totally see that going either way.

I was thinking kal-ay, but Kal-eye would be cool too... :)

Yeah, Kalei works... I could see it going either way... Kali definately makes me think of a girl.

Sounds like an awesome idea DW!
