The story of the disowned nano-novel...

Postby Figment on Wed Dec 03, 2008 12:59 am

Ok, so come here to tell us about bits of your nano that you will be trying to forget happened... It may be something within the story that you didn't like, or it may be the story in general... Of course, not the whole thing overall, but things that you wont be including in re-writes and such...

I was annoyed at my nano... It started out ok, but then everything after about 10k was really forced and really crappy. I plan to start over, and take my time with it now.

None of the stuff that I was anticipating happened... Or if it did happen, it lacked the oomph! Maybe it was just the whole "having company, and then dashing to the finish line in the 24 hours without company" thing...

I didn't enjoy it like I enjoyed Ghostly Belonging... But I intend to, this time around!

So, I'm going to pretend that Conflicting Realities/ The Dream Deception never happened. The idea was cute but it was incredibly juvenile/ naive and the characters were kinda shallow. But I can't bring myself to completely rewrite it. so I've kinda got a problem... I'm trying to rewrite it page by page...

I hated one of my three protagonists. I blame him for all my NaNo problems.

I mean, I actually *like* the fella, but... he wasn't a good character. He was boring. He was a potter.

I had a murderous banker, a psychotic prostitute, sewers mermaids, werewolves... and a nice guy who makes pottery. It just wasn't working out.

Well, you know what they say DW... The biggest journey starts with a single step, or somesuch... :P

I have faith in you, you will get there!

And beeze, the fun thing about characters like that, is that you can throw all manner of faeces at them and try to corrupt them!

I really don't like my NaNo story this year. I loved A Moment In Time from last year's NaNo but for some reason Crystler is bugging me.

I don't like where I led the story to get to the ending. It was completely different from what I originally intended and I like the other ending better.

Plus I grew much too attached to Ielos and I shouldn't have cause she has to die to make the story work and now I don't want her to die. :(

So all in all, not my favorite.

I liked parts of my NaNo, but I know that there will be a lot of editing when I get round to it. Much more than with Destined To Die, that's for sure. Still, I have the frame to build upon now.
A common misconception is that dragons hoard gold. This is half true. Dragons have an unusual sense of value and will actually hoard *anything* they get their claws on. This could be gold coins, or any coins, cds, and other shiny things, through to toys, plushies and oddly shaped leaves, colourful stones and fancy international bottlecaps.
