What bothers you?

Postby Shaye on Tue May 20, 2008 6:54 am

Okay, being a grammar nazi at heart, I have pet peeves about grammar and punctuation.

I HATE it when people don't use contractions when they type. Like, "I do not like that shirt" because it just doesn't sound natural to me and it annoys me.

I also HATE it when people say something like "A autumn day" or "an unicorn." Grinds my gears.

I HATE txt spk. I could kill txt spk. "hi hw r u?" "gd. u?" "gd. wtz up?"

Kill me now.

So those are some of mine. What bothers you?

I hate when people don't use punctuation marks after speech. i.e. "Hey how are you" "I'm so excited you're here"

I also hate when people don't take your advice about adding punctuation into their story stating, "I like it how it is, so does my friend." I'M ONLY TRYING TO FRIGGIN HELP!!!!

-calms down-

Now that Hawkins has shown me the beauty of commas before and after someone is talking directly to someone in speech. "Hey, Mel, how's it going?" I hate when people don't put commas around names.

Chat speakers need to die! -shakes fist violently at chat speakers- Every time someone writes in chat speak I want to shake them until I knock some sense into them. Chat speak makes a person sound so dumb. I especially hate the word plz. -kicks plz-

I can't really state much more cause I'm not a master of grammar yet, I might start to lean towards being a hypocrit so I shall stop there!

I know. I'm not too great at the spelling, but I'm a human dictionary.

Ask all my cousins and friends and Michelle.

That's why I shy away from the spelling topics.

Actually, I'm better at it than a lot of people in my school, but that's not saying much.

I hate that, too! Like when I would tell people that they should make their run-on into two sentences, they'll say "Whatever. That's stupid." and then you're like, "Wtf?"

That really gets under my skin. Why would I suggest where to put commas or punctuation marks in the first place? Cause I have nothing better to do? NO! Teaching me about commas has really improved my work. (I think) And I just want to do the same for someone else, but the someone else is stubborn and doesn't take my advice, ever, so I've now refused to give it. There.

-stops rant-

Well most of my issues are in speech.
Like saying like like way too many like times and using them like incessantly and like improperly?
And ending every sentence with an upward inflection so it sounds like a question?
Text-wise I can ignore, a few mistakes here and there. a misplaced comma, a word that should be capitalized but is't, acouple mispellings, and run on words. its whne sddnly teh mistakes aer eveywheRE!
Also lolcats. That stuff is painful. REALLY PAINFUL!
basically its like this no punc. or prper speling!

Well, at least I've done something useful. It took me 27 years, but I FINALLY DID SOMETHING! :D

My brothers are both high school graduates...and they still say 'what' instead of 'that'. I can't STAND that. They'll say things like "this is my cat what likes to scratch me," or "this is my bike what I used to ride to school on." DO I HAVE TO BEAT YOU'RE FREAKIN' HEADS INTO THE WALL?!...Moving on...

I also can't stand when I get kicked out of a school contest because the stupid judges think that I stole my manuscript from someone else, and then they make a poorly written one a 'honorable mention'. We had to write letters, and this other girl's was written as if she was writing a paragraph day by day or something. It went like this: "well I guess I've written enough for today. *pause* Hey mom it's tomorrow." I wanted to break her in half. -_- As you can see; I never let anything go. On that note, I also want to point out that /I/ was supposed to have the lead role, because /I/ was given it first. IT'S NOT FAIR THAT SHE JUST ASKED FOR IT AFTER I SPENT THREE FREAKIN' WEEKS MEMORIZING LINES; AND THEN YOU GIVE ME A GODDAMN FOUR LINE PART! *twitch* Sorry...

And that's what grinds my gears. XD

And the pictures can be really cute, too, so it's really depressing to see the unecessarily and purposefully bad spelling and grammar. :(
